Last week, hundreds and thousands of horse-lovers, country folk and their many, many dogs descended upon the Badminton estate in Gloucestershire, arriving exclusively by 2×2 and 4×4 (read: horse and large car).
The Badminton Horse Trials is one of the hottest events on the equestrian calendar and it didn’t disappoint – there were ample opportunities to admire the eventing world’s star players and blazing sunshine made all the spectators very happy as they toasted the start of summer.
The Mucky Pheasant set up camp right by the Jack Wills Garden at Fence 9 so drinkers could admire the view both of the splendid house in one direction and splendid competition in the other. Our horse and rider ID skills were put to the test as they galloped, jumped and cantered past at serious pace, although we’re pleased to report that no drinks were spilled in the excitement. The Pheasant’s next stop: the Royal Bath & West Show in Somerset.
